2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Service or repair of the axle bearing should be done by first hoisting the car with it in neutral. Removal of the calipers and rotors should be your first step. After that, hit the axle end plug with a hammer and punch to loosen it from the wheel flange and then remove it. Take off both sets of sensors from the axle tube flange and also remove the nuts that secure the axle flange. Extract the axle shaft and backing plate from the axle tube until the axle bearing is visible and then take out the O-ring from the axle bearing. Disconnect the axle shaft from the axle tube and backing plate and after that, hammer and drift the axle shaft out of the wheel flange and the axle bearing through the plug hole.
