2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wiper Motor Without Damaging the Plastic Drive Link Bushings on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: While servicing the front wiper motor, be sure not to place any force on the plastic bushings attached to the drive link; press on the metal end of the link when you remove or install the drive link onto the ball stud on the motor crank arm, as breaking the bushing makes the whole wiper module have to be replaced. Do not disassemble the wiper motor beyond the crank arm nut, because the motor assembly is made with the crank arm fixed to the output shaft and any indexing error in the park position requires replacing them both. To start, use big pliers to wiggle the front wiper motor crank arm parallel to the armature while releasing the ball stud to its farthest position away from the motor. After that, join the wiper motor and crank arm together and set them onto the front module's motor mounting bracket, screwing and tightening the three securing screws to 5.5 Nm (48 in. lbs.). After that, add the sleeve bushing from the left wiper drive link onto the ball stud on the motor crank arm's end, using a size 19 millimeter or short 3/4 inch socket to hold the bushing in place and snap it on using large channel-lock pliers. Apply this approach to the socket bushing of the right wiper drive link and make sure to use the same installation process. After that, attach the front wiper module back into the cowl plenum.
