Q: How to Replace a Piston and Its Connecting Rod on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: For this removal, first remove the negative cable from the battery. Then, take out the cylinder heads and the oil pan. Should it become necessary, ream the outer edges of the cylinder bores with a good ridge reamer and have the tops of the pistons covered in the process. You need to move the pistons and rods out of the cylinder head, so put the crankshaft at its maximum rotation while each connecting rod is inside the nearest cylinder bore. Inspect the rods and caps on each cylinder and mark them if they aren't marked already. Take out the connecting rod cap and add bolt protectors using special tool #8189 to center the cracked connecting rod. With care, remove every piston and connecting rod set from the cylinder bore, not touching the crankshaft journals as you do so. Once the bearing is off, screw the bearing cap onto the other rod.
