Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before pulling the crankshaft, take out the whole engine and place it on an engine stand. Heat the engine so you can comfortably loosen the oil filter and then detach the oil pan and the oil pick-up tube. After that, remove the timing chain cover, the timing chain and both sprockets. After the flywheel is off, take off the rear oil seal and its retainer. Rotoe the crankshaft until the connecting rod cap is in the right position and then paint a mark or create a scribe on the cap. With care, remove the bearing cap from the connecting rod, checking that you do not harm the crankshaft bearings and repeat on each connecting rod. Discard the main bearing cross bolts and washers and then place a new cross bolt and washer assembly during the final assembly. First, remove the main bearing cap bolts and afterwards take off the main bearing caps. Take the crankshaft out of the engine block next.
