How to Service and Repair Oxygen Sensors for 2.0 and 2.4L Engines on 2009 Dodge Avenger?

Never begin servicing the oxygen sensors until the exhaust manifold, pipes and catalytic converter have cooled because all are hot when the engine is on. Always use the O2S removal tool at both incoming and outgoing sensors. Make sure the upstream O2 sensor is supported, then take off the O2S wire harness mounting clips if they are present (but not installed on all cars) and then disconnect the O2S pigtail harness from the engine wiring harness (6). Take out the O2S (2) from the exhaust system (1). After that, for the downstream oxygen sensor, repeat the steps by jacking up the vehicle, disconnecting the O2S wire harness clips from the engine or body, cutting the O2S connectors from the engine wiring and pulling out the O2S from the catalytic converter.
