2010 Dodge Avenger Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install an Oxygen Sensor for Both Downstream and Upstream Positions on 2010 Dodge Avenger?
A: Let the engine cool down prior to installing the downstream oxygen sensor (O2S), because hot exhaust manifold, pipes and catalytic converter can burn you. To do this, use an O2S removal tool and remember that threads on new oxygen sensors already have anti-seize compound, so avoid applying it manually. Plug the pipe (4) into the catalytic converter (3) and make sure the joining is snug with 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After that, join the O2S pigtail harness to the engine's wiring harness (5) and make sure the O2S wire harness mounting clips are secured to the engine or body if available. When working on the upstream oxygen sensor, it is important that the engine is completely cooled. Use the O2S extractor and make certain not to apply extra anti-seizing substance to the new O2S. Attach O2S (2) to the exhaust pipe (1), then tighten it to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Attach the O2S pigtail harness to the engine wiring harness and, if the engine has them, mount the O2S wire harness clips to the engine or body.
