2009 Dodge Caliber Sway Bar Kit Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Sway Bar Kit on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
A: Be sure to examine the cushions and links on the sway bar kit for too much wear, cracks, damage or distortion before installing. If any component shows signs of trouble, replace it. Twist the bar 180 degrees in the right way, with the two ends curving on top of the steering gear. Start the installation of the sway bar kit by fitting the link ends from the bottom of the back, curved over the top of the crossmember, finally bent over the steering gear. Hold the crossmember in place with a transmission jack, matching it with the positions on the car body you noted during removal. Bolt the front crossmember securely to the car's body with four mounting bolts, tighten them to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) and take away the transmission jack as well as any pegs for the steering gear. Put in the two bolts that connect the steering gear to the crossmember and tighten them until you reach 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.). Use the split on the cushion side to slide them over the bar, then put two bushing keepers over the cushions. Attach the retainers to the crossmember by screwing them on and tightening all four to a torque of 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Connect the front and rear sway bar links to the ends of the sway bar kit, installing and tightening the nuts to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). During this, hold the lower stud of the sway bar link still. Match the hose routing clamps with the crossmember and fasten them tightly, using only 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.) of torque. Place the rear engine mount and, where necessary, fit the engine belly pan. Adjust the front camber and caster slightly by playing with the crossmember on its mounts and make a wheel alignment when needed.
