2009 Dodge Challenger Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace Deployed and Non-Deployed Passenger Air Bags on 2009 Dodge Challenger?
A: The instrument panel's top pad must be replaced if the air bags are deployed for passenger use. First, clear any power from the inside surfaces of the vehicle. Examine the reusable parts from the old top pad and place them on the new instrument panel top pad during installation. Slide the passenger air bag under the instrument panel and connect with the two lower mounting bolts, tightening each to 11.6 Nm (103 in. lbs.). Then, put in the left and right passenger air bag screws and set them at 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.), while attaching the passenger air bag electrical connector. The last step is to put in the new instrument panel assembly. With an air bag not used for deployment, place it in the instrument panel making sure nothing is blocking the process. Slide the air bag into the passenger air bag door and bolt it down on the cross-car beam, tightening each bolt to 11.6 Nm (103 in. lbs.). Connect the passenger air bag electrical connector and use two inboard screws to install the air bag just below the distribution duct, tightening them to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.). Place the two screws for the outboard mount at the bottom of the distribution duct, just below the passenger air bag and tighten them to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.). Finish up by installing the glove box and right side silencer pad to your vehicle. Be careful not to hook up the negative battery cable until after performing the system test; making this mistake is very dangerous.
