2009 Dodge Dakota Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install an Axle Shaft and Its Related Components on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before putting in the axle shaft, rub gear lubricant on both the bearing bore and the seal lip. After that, insert the axle shaft into the seal and bearing and engage it with the splines on the side gear (3). Be careful not to harm the axle shaft seal as you clean the back of the gearbox. After that, slide the C-lock (1) onto the axle shaft (2) and press the axle shaft inward until the C-lock seats itself in the side gear. After removing the parts, set in the pinion shaft and watch it pass between the thrust washers and differential pinions inside the case. Aim the entry for the shaft (1) at the hole in the differential case and fasten the lock screw (4) using Loctite(R), as directed earlier. Put on the differential cover at the end and before installing the rear brakes, fill it up with gear lubricant.
