2009 Dodge Dakota Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Prepare for and Complete a Rack and Pinion Installation on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before fitting the rack and pinion, look at all the bushings and change any that are damaged or worn. Attach the rack and pinion 6 to the vehicle and tighten n and bolts 2 to 258 Nm (190 ft. lbs.). Attach lines 2 and 3 from the pump to the rack and pinion 4, but ensure you tighten the pressure hose to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) and the return hose to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Insert shaft coupler 1 onto the rack and pinion 4, secure a new bolt 1 and tighten it until it reads no more than 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.). Wipe the tie rod end studs and knuckle tapers 5 and insert tie rod ends 2 into the steering knuckles 5. Fasten the nuts 1, applying 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Put the front tires on, remove the support and slowly lower the vehicle. Release the steering wheel, add fluid to the system and fix the toe position.
