2009 Dodge Dakota Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Front Steering Knuckle on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: The ball joint stud tapers inside the front steering knuckle should be dry and clean, so wipe them with mineral spirits. Secure the hub/bearing to the steering knuckle and add the bolts, tightening them to 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.). After that, attach the knuckle to both upper and lower ball joints. After removing the ball joints, put the upper one back in and secure it with its nut, tightening it to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) and similarly tighten the lower ball joint nut to 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.). Remove the hydraulic jack from the lower control arm, then mount the tie rod end and tighten its nut by 108 Nm or 80 ft. lbs. The driver's side hub/bearing should be slid onto the front halfshaft and tightened by hand up to 251 Nm (185 ft lbs.). If your model has an ABS wheel speed sensor, put it in place at the same time as you install the brake shield, rotor and caliper. After that, set the wheel and tire assembly, take out the support, lower the vehicle and carry out a wheel alignment.
