2009 Dodge Durango Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Left Camshaft on 2009 Dodge Durango?
A: You should first coat the camshaft journals with clean oil as needed before moving on with the left camshaft service. Position the left side camshaft so the camshaft sprocket dowel is near 1 o'clock to make sure the camshaft is in neutral, helping you install the camshaft bearing caps. Now, set the camshaft inside the cylinder head and place the camshaft bearing caps on, using only hand force for the retaining bolts. First, set the caps in order: number 1 to number 4, so the arrow on each cap points frontwards as you look at the engine. Twist the retaining bolts of the middle cap one-half turn at a time until you reach 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Lift the camshaft drive gear into the timing chain and make sure the V6 mark lines up with the mark on both chain links. Turn the camshaft using the Camshaft Holder 8428A until its sprocket dowel lines up with the slot in the camshaft sprocket and then attach the sprocket to the camshaft. After cleaning off the camshaft sprocket bolt of excess oil, put in the retaining bolt and secure it by hand. After taking out the Wedge Locking Tool 8379, add on the adapter pins 8346 from your set to the Spanner Wrench 6958 and tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). The last step is to mount the cylinder head cover.
