2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Brake Light Switch on 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before installing the brake lamp switch, disconnect the negative battery cable, so that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) will not send a signal that could deploy the air bag. The brake lamp switch plunger only works once; after removal, you need to put in a new one. Be sure that the plunger is positioned at its maximum length before pressing the brake pedal all of the way down. Before you do anything else, press down and keep holding the brake pedal. On the locking collar, fit the notched strips with the directional arrow facing the brake pedal. Then thread them through the keyed hole in the bracket on the brake pedal until the brake lamp switch is firmly set. Turn the switch housing about 30 degrees in the opposite direction to slide the tabs into the bracket. Ease your foot off the brake pedal but don't press it upwards. Be sure that the switch plunger touches the flag bracket on the brake pedal arm; if there is no contact, press the brake pedal down and move the plunger as far out as you can. Clockwise rotate the plunger adjustment release lever until it is locked, with it now parallel to the brake lamp switch connector receptacle which fixes the plunger's length permanently. Incorrect installation for this step requires that a new brake lamp switch must be used. After that, plug the wire harness back into the brake lamp switch and attach the negative battery cable once more.
