2009 Dodge Journey Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Steering Knuckle in the Rear Suspension on 2009 Dodge Journey?
A: Start by placing the rear suspension knuckle where it belongs on the upper and lower control arm and the toe link. Put the screw's bolt and stud nut in to hold the upper control arm to the knuckle, but you don't have to tighten them yet. Now, put in the bolt and nut that fixes the lower control arm to the knuckle, then the bolt and nut holding the toe link to the knuckle, again without tightening. It's important to first clean the threads and then use Mopar(R) Lock & Seal Adhesive or an alternative before screwing in the three bolts securing the trailing link to the knuckle, so the parking brake cable routing clamp is mounted with the top bolt. Tighten these mounting bolts to the equivalent of 60 Nm or 44 ft. lbs. After handling the suspension, set up the hub and bearing, before installing the brake rotor and caliper. Place the brake tube routing bracket over the knuckle and put in the mounting screw, tightening it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Install the tire and wheel unit with the wheel nuts just below maximum tightness-135 Nm (100 ft. lbs). Put the vehicle in a lowered position and seat it on an alignment rack or drive-on lift, then raise it as much as needed to reach the un-tightened mounting bolts and nuts. Screw the upper control arm bolt nut at the knuckle to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.), the lower control arm bolt nut at the knuckle to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.) and the toe link mounting bolt nut at the knuckle to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). When needed, take your car to a mechanic for wheel alignment.
