Dodge Journey Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Remove a Front Steering Knuckle on Dodge Journey?
    A:
To change the front steering knuckle, lift the vehicle, take out the wheel nuts and remove the wheel and tire set. With the helper on the brakes, take the hub nut from the axle half shaft. Remove the front brake rotor from your bike. Unfasten the routing clip at the wheel speed sensor cable out of the knuckle and then remove the screw fastening the wheel speed sensor head to the knuckle, then pull the whole sensor head out. Now, take out the nut at the outer tie rod attached to the knuckle using a wrench or other tool on the tie rod stud. Take the outer tie rod end off the knuckle with Remover, Special Tool 9360 and remove the exterior tie rod. Eliminate the screw fastening the lower Ball Joint to the lower Control Arm, then release the lower ball joint from the lower control arm by using Remover, Special Tool 9360, without taking out the knuckle. Be sure to stop the strut assembly-to-knuckle bolts from moving, so hold onto the heads of the bolts as you remove the nuts. Punch both bolts off the strut with a pin punch. Keep the half shaft steady so the inner C/V joint does not come apart. Pop the knuckle off the outer C/V joint spline of the half shaft and take it out of the vehicle. If the shield blocker has to be removed, take the three screws out of the knuckle and remove the shield. If you must, remove the four bolts holding the hub and bearing onto the knuckle. After that, slide the hub and bearing out of the knuckle.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on Dodge Journey?
