2009 Dodge Journey TPMS Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a TPMS Sensor on 2009 Dodge Journey?
A: Begin by raising and supporting the vehicle and follow it up by carefully taking off the tire and wheel. The valve stem cap is important because it is designed with an O-ring to seal the valve from contamination, so don't replace it with a non-O-ring cap. If you don't use the original nickel-plated brass core, the aluminum valve stem is likely to corrode; don't put a different material inside. Go through the maker's guide for correct tire removal so you do not damage the sensor attached to the tire. Do not place the Bead Breaker by the sensor area while getting the bead loose from the wheel rim. At dismounting, make sure to put the tool from the valve stem at least 280° into the area between beads on both the outside and inside of the tire. Remove the nut that holds the sensor to the wheel, but at this point make sure to apply pressure to the rear of the metal valve stem to stop the sensor pushing on the antenna strap and potentially causing damage. In the end, pull the sensor off the wheel.
