2009 Dodge Nitro Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is the Brake Light Switch Installed on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: It's important to disconnect the negative battery cable and wait two minutes, as the air bag can be triggered by any mistake during installation. A new self-adjusting switch plunger is required for the brake lamp switch if it is removed from the mounting bracket. The first step is to press and keep your foot on the brake pedal. Put the tabs from the brake lamp switch locking collar into the keyed hole in the switch mounting bracket and seat the switch housing against it. Twist the handle about 30 degrees clockwise to snap it into place with the mounting bracket, then let go of the brake pedal but don't pull it up while it's being engaged. Rotate the plunger adjustment release lever clockwise until it is locked and level with the brake lamp switch connector receptacle; the correct setting cannot be changed and requires a new switch if there is a mistake. Afterwards, put the wire harness connector back into the brake lamp switch, cover the steering column opening on the instrument panel and attach the negative battery cable.
