An additional proven component in Dodge Nitro vehicles is the Brake Light Switch whose role is to trigger the brake lights whenever the brake pedal is depressed. This mechanism helps to inform other drivers on the actions of the Dodge Nitro and whether it has slowed down, or stopped. The Brake Light Switch works through a very effective and straight-forward contact with the brake pedal in order to relay a clear message to the car's lighting system immediately. The manufacturers of Dodge Nitro vehicles may have improved the design of Brake Light Switch in the course of the years with the aim of increasing reliability and response time but particular changes are not described. Without each Brake Light Switch, road safety is impossible and Dodge Nitro employs the part in the car's safety set up hence its importance to all cars.

Dodge Nitro Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Brake Light Switch on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Make sure to disconnect the supplemental restraint system before you work on your brake light switch by unhooking and leaving disconnected the battery negative cable for two minutes. Because the self-adjuster in the brake lamp switch is used just once, it cannot be installed more than once, so if it is removed, it needs to be replaced with a new switch. You have to first open the cover on the steering column and then look for the brake lamp switch below the steering column at the support bracket. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the brake lamp switch, then loosen the switch housing counterclockwise about 30 degrees to make the tabs on the switch locking collar match the keyed hole in the switch mounting bracket. Pull straight back on the switch, out of the keyed hole, while removing it from the bracket and throwing away the removed brake lamp switch.
