2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove, Lubricate, and Install a Front Brake Caliper on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Make sure that you don't use petroleum-based grease on any rubber elements while removing and replacing the front brake caliper; always use non-petroleum-based grease instead. Completely remove the old grease from slide pin bores and put some fresh grease inside from the packets region the kit comes with or use Dow Corning-807(R) grease. Apply a thick layer of grease to the new slide pins on all the working pieces. Put the boot onto the slide pin, then ideally put it in the adapter. Force the pin into the adapter until it's fully seated and expel air from the air chamber at the back of the barrel by gently pressing on the boot by the slide pin. New copper washers should always be fitted onto the banjo bolt when you install the brakes. Then, fit the caliper to the adapter, use two new copper washers on the banjo bolt and tighten it to 28 Nm (245 in. lbs.). Insert the caliper slide pin bolts and turn them until they reach 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Push up the brake pedal fully, removing the prop rod, then bleed the area you repaired; if the pedal does not feel right after bleeding, you need to perform a base bleed process. Next, put on the tires and wheels, get rid of the supports and send the vehicle down.
