Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2009 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: First, unhook the battery negative cable and take the air cleaner assembly off when you want to remove the camshaft. Eliminate the coolant from the system and undo the accessory drive belt, followed by removing both the generator and the A/C compressor, placing them off to the side. Afterwards, disconnect the radiator and remove the intake manifold. Unscrew and remove the cylinder head covers, along with both left and right cylinder heads. After that, take away the oil pan and the timing case cover. Remove the oil pick-up tube and the oil pump from their places. Place the timing chain aside and replace the camshaft tensioner/thrust plate along with the tensioner bolts, noting the lifters so you can restack them. Afterward, take out the tappets and retainer assembly and use a bolt that goes into the front of the camshaft to ease out the camshaft, making sure not to touch the cam bearings with the cams' lobes.
