Q: How to Service the A/C Hose on a 5.7L Engine on 2009 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: The first step for servicing the A/C liquid line on a 5.7L engine is to detach the negative battery cable, surround it with plastic and recover the refrigerant. There are two separable sections on the A/C liquid line. In the idle running section, remove the air filter housing and bracket and then remove the plastic from the condenser outlet stud. Pry off the nut at the connect point between the A/C liquid line and the A/C condenser, remove the connection and throw away the O-ring and gasket. Separate the line from your body retaining clips, then remove the retaining clip attached to the spring lock, followed by using AC Line Disconnect Tools 7193 or similar, to disconnect the front segment from the rear segment. After taping or plugging the A/C lines, remove the cover over the condenser, then take the front section out of the engine compartment. Repeat those first steps for the rear section by removing its negative battery cable and reclaiming the refrigerant. Fix the rear end of the A/C liquid line free from the body retaining clip after removing both the housing and the bracket holding the air filter. Open the coupler by breaking the secondary retaining clip and use the A/C line disconnect tool to disassemble the two sections. Afterward, throw out the O-ring seals. Separate the secondary retaining clip from the spring-lock assembly that holds the rear section to the evaporator tube and then use A/C Line Disconnect Tools 7193 or something similar to unhook the A/C liquid line from the evaporator tube, pulling out the old O-rings. At last, add plugs or tape where the lines and tube come out and take out the rear piece of the air conditioning system from the engine compartment.
