How to Service and Repair the Rack and Pinion on 2009 Dodge Ram 3500?

The rack and pinion on 4500 and 5500 vehicles cannot be repaired inside the car. Put your front wheels directly in front of you. Block the steering wheel and take out all the power steering fluid you can. Remove and place a cap over each fluid hose from the rack and pinion. Remove the bolt that holds the coupler pinch to the rack and pinion and slide the shaft off the rack. You need to take off the track bar from the frame side to ensure the pitman arm puller has enough room. After that, get rid of the pitman arm nut. Mark the pitman shaft and pitman arm for where they will be installed, then use Puller OTC 5055 or any suitable pitman arm puller to remove the pitman arm. Remember to take out the three bolts of the rack and pinion and remove the rack and pinion from the vehicle.
