2009 Jeep Commander Fan Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Viscous Fan Clutch on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: The first step to service the viscous radiator fan clutch is to take off the accessory drive belt. Now remove the fan blade/viscous fan drive from the water pump by loosening the connecting nut with the wrench and adapters from kit 6958, as the viscous fan drive's threads are right hand. Do not take out the fan or viscous fan drive assembly from your vehicle, nor remove the fan blade assembly at this point. Take off the fan shroud to radiator bolts, then assemble remove the fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive as a full unit. After you take it off, be sure the fan drive isn't lying flat on its side or silicone fluid might run into the bearing assembly and spoil the lubricant. You should not take out the water pump pulley-to-water pump bolts, as the belt is under tension there. After that, remove the four bolts that connect the fan assembly to the viscous fan drive.
