2009 Jeep Commander Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Radiator on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Ensure the cooling system is cool and not under pressure so you are safe from even diluted hot coolant. Pour the coolant into a clean bottle, as long as it does not contain contaminants. Whenever you take out the radiator or A/C condenser, remember where each rubber air seal was seated, to prevent the engine from overheating. The first step should be to unhook the negative battery cable. Empty the radiator of the engine's coolant. First clear away the grille on the front and after that remove the two bolts holding the radiator. Take off both hoses connected to the transmission cooler, the power for the fan control solenoid and the line from the power steering cooler. After that, remove both radiator and overflow hoses, as well as the upper and lower hoses. Pull the grille air inlet duct off the vehicle. Two rubber grommets are pressed into the radiator lower crossmember, where the alignment dowel pins fit from the lower part of the radiator. Remember that the air conditioner continues to work when your car is turned off too. Since the radiator and cooling fan can be removed together, there's no need to take off the fan once the radiator has been removed. Unhook the two hydraulic lines at the fan drive and remove the return hose as well. When lifting the radiator out, handle it carefully to avoid twisting the fins and also try not to touch or displace the air conditioning condenser if it's installed.
