2009 Jeep Commander Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: The first thing to do when using 3.7L engines is clean the surfaces that will be covered by the gasket. While using the new gasket, place the water pump and tighten its mounting bolts as well as stud to a torque setting of 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). Check that the impeller spins without it hitting the timing chain cover/case. Following that, mount the accessory drive belt tensioner and the accessory drive belt in the proper place to prevent the engine from overheating due to a faulty water pump movement. Secure the top and bottom parts of the fan shroud together so that all the air can get through the radiator, then attach the two fan shroud-to-radiator screws. If the car came with a viscous fan, place it so that the tips of the fan blades are no closer than 25 mm (1.0 inches) from the fan shroud. Remove air from the cooling system, fill it again, put the negative battery cable back on and check for leaks.
