2009 Jeep Commander Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain the Thermostat in a 3.7L/4.7L Engine on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: To maintain the engine coolant thermostat on a 3.7L/4.7L engine, first take out the negative battery cable. If your coolant looks clean, let it drain in a suitable container and don't touch the draincock when the system is warm and under pressure. Drain the water first and then raise the car up on a hoist to get access to the splash shield. After that, pry open the lower radiator hose clamp and pull the hose off the thermostat housing. After that, unbolt the thermostat housing, the thermostat housing's mounting bolts and the thermostat. Make sure any new replacement thermostat is the suitable type for the vehicle and engine combination.
