- Q: How to Install a Headlight Bulb to Maximize Longevity and Prevent Damage on 2009 Jeep Commander?A: Make sure you use the same size and type of bulb as the original to stop the headlamp, socket or wiring from overheating. Avoid touching the bulb glass or having it touch things with oil, since this will decrease the life span of the bulb. Both low beam and high beam headlamp bulbs share the same procedure, but differ in position, size and style. Start by bringing the low beam or high beam bulb base into line with the opening on the back of the reflector. Place the bulb and base inside the reflector so it below is secure and then rotate the base clockwise around 30 degrees to make it lock into place. Rejoin the black and red wires in the connector and secure the connector in the housing at the back of the lamp. Cover the lamp with its front housing after that. Remember to insert the negative battery cable into its place.
