2009 Jeep Compass Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wiper Motor Without Damaging the Plastic Drive Link Bushings on 2009 Jeep Compass?
A: Do not press on the plastic bushing in the front wiper; instead, only press or pry on the metal parts next to the bushing when removing or installing the drive link to the wiper motor. Since the plastic bushing can be damaged easily, a damaged one means replacing the entire module. Don't loosen the nut on the wiper motor shaft or the wrong positioning of the front wiper motor could cause those modules to need to be changed. Place the front wiper motor and crank arm unit (5) inside the front wiper module bracket (1) and insert and tighten the two screws (2) into the two nuts (3) to secure the motor bracket to the module bracket with a torque of 7.5 Nm (66 in. lbs.). After that, connect the sleeve bushing (2) of the driver wiper drive link to the ball stud on the motor crank arm and secure the socket bushing (3) of the passenger side wiper drive link onto the other ball stud. Put a short 3/4 inch or 19 millimeter socket over the cap of the crankshaft socket, then use big channel-lock pliers to apply pressure to the arm and the top of the socket while you install. With the ignition switch on, cycle the front wiper switch a few times until the motor and linkage park naturally. Install again the front wiper module (1) and reattach the battery negative strap.
