- Q: How to Install an Automatic Transmission Shifter on 2009 Jeep Liberty?A: First, put the shifter assembly on the studs under the floor pan and tighten the nuts up to 9.6 Nm (85 in.lbs.). Shift the parking lever into the PARK position, then release the tightness on the adjustment screw of the gearshift cable. Manually push the shift lever to the right, then connect the cable to the pin and add the park lock cable to the cam and notch in the shifter assembly. Set the key in the LOCK (1) position and keep it there until the cable is in place and pull the tab on the cable adjustment to the unlocked position. After that, assemble the shifter wiring harness to the assembly and confirm that the gear lever is in the PARK position. Tighten the adjustment screw to 7 Nm (65 in.lbs.), while the key is in LOCK (1) and the shifter is set to PARK. End the procedure by pushing down on the tab for the lock cable adjustment, making sure all functions are correct and installing any console parts you took off earlier.
