  • Q: How to Safely Remove a Tie Rod End on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
    A: First lift the vehicle so it's secure, then take off the tire and wheel unit and mark the edge you just end of tie rod so you know which way is in when you reinstall it. Release the jam nut on the tie rod end and take off the outer tie rod end nut (2). It is important to use the correct tool when removing ball joints and tie rods or the seal or the steering knuckle may be damaged. To remove the outer tie rod end (1) from the knuckle (3), take out tool 9360 (2), count the turns you use during the process and note how much to turn it when installing. After that, take out the outer tie rod end (1) that was connected to the inner tie rod.
