2009 Jeep Patriot Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Install an Air Bag on 2009 Jeep Patriot?
A: To install the driver air bag, begin by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable, so the SRS is disabled. After two minutes, the system capacitor will discharge. Do not allow any foreign material inside the driver air bag or between the air bag cushion and the trim cover since this could harm anyone in the vehicle if the air bag is used. Do not paint the driver air bag trim cover, as paint can change the cover's behavior during an accident. If the air bag is faulty or damaged but did not inflate, deal with the supplemental restraint in accordance with the recommendations. Before taking the air bag out, learn what needs to be done after it has been deployed. Place the driver air bag next to the steering wheel so you can easily reach the electrical connections at the back of the housing. Press the lock of each driver end connector straight into the receptacle on the inflator connector to ensure each match is correct. Place the driver air bag snugly into your steering wheel so the Clock Spring pigtail wires are not trapped. Fit and tighten the two screws for the driver air bag on the horn switch to 13Nm (115 in. lbs.). Do not plug in the negative cable from the battery until you finish the post repair test on the SRS system.
