2009 Jeep Patriot Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install an Oxygen Sensor for 2.0 and 2.4L FWD Engines on 2009 Jeep Patriot?
A: For the downstream oxygen sensor installation on 2.0 and 2.4L FWD engines, make sure the engine is cool before proceeding to prevent burns from anything hot. It's important to use a removal tool for oxygen sensors when doing this procedure and keep in mind that the threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with anti-seize compound, so do not apply any more. The O2 sensor should be installed on the catalytic converter and tightened with a torque wrench to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After that, link the O2 sensor pigtail harness connector to the engine wiring harness and fasten the O2S wire harness brackets onto the engine or body as needed. The upstream oxygen sensor should also be handled with caution, so don't let heat damage it or the wiring. As before, clear the O2S lines with your tool and don't apply anti-seize compound to the newly fitted sensor. Connect the O2 sensor to the exhaust pipe, tightening it to the recommended 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and then link the pigtail harness to the engine wiring harness, secured as needed by the mounting clips.
