  A: Before working on the oxygen sensor on the 2.0 and 2.4L FWD models, let the engine cool so you don't get burned by the hot manifold, pipes and converter. You should use an oxygen sensor (O2S) removal tool for the process. The first step is to lift and hold the vehicle so you have room to work. If you have O2S wire harness mounting clips on your engine, unhook them from the engine or body first and afterward disconnect the O2S pigtail harness connector from the engine harness. To access the oxygen sensor downstream, take out the O2S from the catalytic converter. Do the foundational procedures, then extract the oxygen sensor from the manifold or header. Note that you shouldn't touch the wires directly when undoing the oxygen sensor connector, as this might damage the sensor.
