2009 Jeep Wrangler Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Steering Knuckle on the Front on 2009 Jeep Wrangler?
A: You should start by placing the knuckle onto the studs of the ball joints. First, tighten the upper ball joint's nut and cotter pin to 95 Nm (70 ft.lbs), then the lower ball joint's which should also be tightened to this amount. Afterwards, route the wheel speed sensor through the hole in the brake shield and, if your car requires one, add the axle shaft nut and tighten it to 136 Nm (100 ft.lbs). After removing the hub/bearing, install the wheel speed sensor and tighten the bolt to 4-6 Nm (34-50 in. lbs.). Once you have slid in the brake rotor, mount the disc brake caliper and tighten all its adaptor mounting bolts to 163 Nm (120 ft.lbs). You should attach the drag link to the knuckle on the right side with the mounting nut, snug it down to 74 Nm (55 ft-lbs) and do the same for the left side. After that, install the wheel and tire, clear out the support and bring the vehicle down.
