2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Muffler Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Assemble and Inspect a Muffler on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You should not tighten clamps during exhaust assembly until the parts are placed correctly and all necessary checks have been made. First, set the muffler onto the intermediate pipe and then mount the isolator supports to the vehicle bottom. At the beginning of the system, line up each component and confirm it doesn't rub against underbody parts. Use a torque wrench to tighten the band clamp at 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Ensure the clamp band doesn't touch the center hourglass-shaped block at both ends because this will make the clamp's strap extend and lose pressure, leading to you having to replace it. By removing the nut and bending back the ends of the old band clamp, the spot weld will break. Then, use a file or grinder to even the weld, replacing the old clamp with a new one in position as before. After that, hook up the ground strap for the exhaust, start the engine and check for any exhaust leaks, fixing them as you go. After that, check that the exhaust does not touch the car body and change any setup as needed.
