2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Exhaust Pipe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Assemble and Tighten an Exhaust Pipe on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Wait to tighten clamps on the exhaust until all the parts are properly aligned and spaces between them are checked. The first task is to secure the intermediate pipe and the isolator supports to the lower body, after which you should hang the muffler. Beginning at the front of the assembly, ensure that every component is lined up and leaves enough space so that underbody parts can fit properly. Tighten the band clamps until they reach 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) so that they don't press so hard they bottom out against the center shape which can stretch the band out and make it less effective. To put on a new clamp, take off the nut, remove the ends of the clamp and break the spot weld as you file or grind the area smooth until the clamp is properly oriented. After installation, get the engine running and view the exhaust, making repairs if you notice any leaks and making sure no part of the exhaust touches the body panels.
