2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are the Operating Principles and Safety Precautions for a Catalytic Converter on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: As catalytic converters are heated to a very high temperature, you must let the exhaust system cool first before servicing any elements. Avoid working close to the catalytic converter since its temperature will go up immediately after the engine has been run. To start, unclamp the middle section connecting the catalytic converter. Rather than lubricating the muffler or exhaust pipe isolators with petroleum, make a solution out of liquid dish soap and water. After that, disconnect the oxygen sensor wiring from electrical connectors 1 and 2. As necessary, disconnect the intermediate pipe isolators and slip the muffler/intermediate pipe assembly off the other end of the catalytic converter. To change the 2.0L engine, take off the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold and remove the catalytic converter from the vehicle. Remove the catalytic converter, separate the after conversion pipes and take out the converter from the engine compartment. 2.4L turbo engines are treated the same way as well. Next, take out and throw away the flange gasket. Whenever replacing any part of the exhaust system, always use genuine original or equivalents.
