2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove a timing cover on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Remove the four bolts that hold the upper torque strut in place and then set that aside. When dealing with a turbocharged engine, leave the air conditioning system disconnected from its junction block which lies under the timing belt cover. After that, take away the fasteners for the timing belt cover and remove it from the engine. Unplug the negative terminal from the battery and lift the car on a hoist so you can remove the right front wheel and the right splash shield. Take out the accessory drive belts as well as the crankshaft damper. After that, pull out the lower torque strut, remove the catalytic converter from the manifold and disconnect the A/C pressure switch at the back of the compressor housing. With the vehicle sitting low and the engine on a lift, skip draining the air-conditioning system and get rid of the connections at the fitting block. Remove the upper torque strut and the screw joining the ground strap to the bracket, along with the upper torque strut bracket from its tower location. Open the door panel and the power steering pump by removing its bracket, while not detaching any hoses from the pump. After the right engine mount is removed, jack up the engine to a position where the bolts on the engine support bracket can be accessed and, remove those bolts as well. After that, get rid of the timing belt cover fasteners and remove the cover. Take off the front timing belt covers first and then remove both the timing belt and the timing belt idler pulley for the rear cover. Hold each camshaft sprocket with Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847, remove the sprocket bolts and then remove the fasteners on the rear timing belt cover and take off the cover.
