2010 Dodge Caliber Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2010 Dodge Caliber?
A: You should turn off the Supplemental Restraint System by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable and then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to go blank to avoid the air bag being activated accidentally. The service replacement Clock Spring arrives with a steel ring that must be removed only when the engine is installed. Before driving, straighten the wheel and make sure it is locked into place. Either use the multifunction switch jumper from the old Clock Spring or install a brand new one. Slide the Clock Spring over the steering column upper shaft, then attach all three instrument panel wire harness connectors on the back of the Clock Spring case. Line up the Clock Spring onto the steering column lock housing and secure it by screwing in the three screws, in the order of lower right, upper left and upper right, to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.). After that, reassemble the lower and upper shrouds onto the steering column and put the multifunction switches back onto the Clock Spring. Bring the steering column all the way up and lock it into place and then reattach the steering wheel. Afterward, release the plastic locking pin in the Clock Spring rotor to hold the center and then reconnect the battery negative cable.
