Before fitting the Clock Spring assembly, unplug the negative
Battery Cable to temporarily disable the supplemental restraint system. Give it two minutes so the air bag charging capacitor has time to discharge. A service replacement Clock Spring is molded with a locking pin that shouldn't be removed until you install the
Steering Wheel; trying to remove it beforehand would make you center the Clock Spring again. Lock the steering wheel straight ahead before you start the car. If a new Clock Spring is installed, move the multifunction switch jumper harness over from the previous unit or put in a new one. Cover the upper part of the steering shaft with the Clock Spring, then put the three instrument panel wire harness connectors onto the back of the Clock Spring case. Set the Clock Spring onto the lock housing of the steering column and use the three screws in the order right lower, left upper and right upper, tightening them to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.) to prevent any sound as you rotate the steering wheel. Attach the left and right multifunction switches onto the Clock Spring and then link the upper and lower shrouds to the steering column. Lift the steering column all the way up and lock it and then fix the steering wheel back in place. Remove the small plastic pin that secures the disk to make sure it is straight, but leave the battery negative cable unattached until the system test is done to prevent injury.
