2010 Dodge Challenger A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2010 Dodge Challenger?
A: The first part of servicing the A/C compressor clutch is to disconnect and isolate the negative battery wire. Disconnect and detach the air intake hose and air cleaner housing and fit the radiator fan and shroud together into one group. Then, remove the accessory drive belt. Remove the engine wire harness from the large connector on the clutch field coil located on top of the A/C compressor. There are cases where taking out the A/C compressor is required to get to the compressor shaft bolt or pulley and field coil snap rings, with the system still completely sealed and charged. Disconnect the compressor clutch field coil connector and wire lead from inside the connector bracket. Fix the band-type or strap wrench onto the clutch plate while you remove the shaft bolt. Be careful not to pry between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing set since it can harm the clutch plate. Try not to discard the clutch shim(s) while removing the clutch plate, since they could be installed later. Gently tap the clutch plate with a plastic mallet to take it out of the holder on the compressor shaft and after that, take out the clutch plate and shim(s). Use A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or an equivalent tool to remove the snap ring holding the pulley and bearing assembly to the front of the A/C compressor and take the assembly off. Last, take out the other snap ring that keeps the compressor clutch field coil fast to the front of the compressor and then detach the field coil from the clutch.
