2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Damaged or Ineffective Air Bag on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before replacing an ineffective or damaged side curtain air bag, first turn off the Supplemental Restraint System by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable and then wait two minutes for the system to discharge. Place rubber gloves on your hands, wear eye protection and use a shirt that covers your arms to shield yourself from items in the air bag unit that could irritate your skin. The first step is to take off the headliner from the car. Then, remove the plastic retainer first to separate the side curtain air bag front tether from the inside of the A-pillar, then remove either metal hook the front tether is also attached to with the inside of the A-pillar. Detach the two plastic push-in retainers which fasten the front tether to the inner A-pillar. Lift the body wire harness connector at the front of the side curtain air bag inflator inflator on the roof rail, just ahead of the C-pillar and pull it out of the connector receptacle. After that, pull the retainer that is part of the side air bag and the metal basement retainer loose, both securing the rear tether to the inner D-pillar. Detach and remove the remaining two plastic push-in connectors holding the rear tether. Remove all six of the nuts that hold the side curtain air bag tabs to the six weld studs found on the inner roof side rail and also remove the two nuts from the inflator mounting tabs on that same rail. Finally, take out the whole unit of the side curtain air bag from the vehicle.
