2010 Jeep Wrangler Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can an Automatic Transmission Filter Be Serviced and Repaired on 2010 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Only use Mopar® ATF+4, Automatic Transmission Fluid, to service the fluid filter in an automatic transmission, replenish the transmission oil at the same time and brush the magnet inside the oil pan clean with a clean, dry cloth. In case the transmission is disassembled, both the fluid and the filter should be changed. Raise up your vehicle on a hoist and place something to collect the trans fluid underneath the transmission oil pan. One of the bolts in the oil pan has a sealing patch from the factory which needs to be pulled off when you replace it. Loosen the bolts on the pan to allow one corner to fall and let the fluid come out, before lifting out the oil pan. On the valve body, set up a new filter and o-ring on the bottom and make sure the retaining screws are nice and tight, at 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.). Thread in the oil pan bolt, but first replenish and seal the patch on the bolt using Mopar® Lock AND Seal Adhesive. Degrease the oil pan and magnet, fit the pan back in place with new Silicone Adhesive sealant and secure the bolts to 20 Nm (14.5 ft. lbs.). Feed the engine's dipstick with four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4, turn on the engine and let it idle a minimum of one minute. Make sure you have your parking and service brakes on, then move the gear selection just a while to every position until it is in park or neutral. Make sure the transmission fluid level is between 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the lowest point on the dipstick and the lowest mark itself and repeat the check once the transmission is at normal operating temperature of 82°C (180°F). Afterward, set the dipstick all the way into the opening to block dirt from entering the transmission.
