Before you remove the crankshaft, drain your engine oil and remove the
Oil Filter. After that, take the engine from the vehicle and setup it on an engine stand. After that, take out the
Oil Pan and oil pick-up tube, the idler pulley bracket for the accessory
Drive Belt, the upper
Intake Manifold, the cylinder head covers and the
Timing Chain cover. Following this, take out the primary timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, oil pump, crankshaft rear oil seal retainer and windage tray. Spin the crankshaft so the connecting rod cap you want to remove lies under one of the bearing caps and remember to mark the bearing caps you remove, because each set is unique and cannot be exchanged. Use a permanent ink marker or scribe tool to mark and make sure to carefully remove the bearing caps of the connecting rods so you don't damage the crankshaft bearings. Be careful not to harm the surfaces of the fractured rod and cap while you work. Then, take out the main bearing cap bolts, as well as the tie bolts and remove the main bearing caps after them. Then, carefully lift out the crankshaft (7) from the cylinder block (6), making sure not to harm the crankshaft's bearing surfaces.
