How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on Chrysler 300?

The first thing to do when working on all-wheel-drive rack and pinion is to disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable from the battery post. Drain the power steering fluid from the pump reservoir and raise and prop up the car. Take out the bolts at the wheel end and remove both of the front wheel assemblies. Do not try to turn the bellows at the inner tie rod and check that it is loose and rotates before you proceed. Loose the nut on the tie rod at each side, then take out the piece at every knuckle. Lift the knuckle with the vehicle upside down and then, with the Remover, 9360, carefully separate the outer tie rod from each knuckle. Unscrew the steering coupling pinch bolt at the rack and pinion, undo the return hose tube nut and take out the return hose. Unscrew the nut on the pressure hose tube from the rack and pinion and remove the pressure hose. Open the nuts on the screws holding the mount for each inner tie rod bellows and their heat shield above it. After that, get rid of the upper rack and pinion attachment bolts and nuts and then remove the lower mounting bolts. Remove the rack and pinion after all other jobs are finished. Should you need to, take out the outer tie rods from the gear and note the number of revolutions for every tie rod as a reference when you install the replacement rack and pinion.
