To replace the serpentine accessory drive belt on the 2.7L engine, first check the condition of all the pulleys. Having the belt set up properly is imperative during mounting; that is to prevent the overheating of the engine due to the
Water Pump spinning the wrong way. The drive belt should be positioned around all pulleys but idler one. Start by turning the tensioner arm to its stop position. Next, route the belt around the idler pulley. Allow the tensioner to rotate into the belt so it is fully seated on all pulleys. When a new belt is being installed, the indexing tang on the back of the tensioner must be approximately 6 - 8mm (0.24 - 0.32 in.) from the indexing stop on the tensioner housing. A belt used for less than 15 minutes is considered new. After fitting, check condition of belt wear indicator.
