The Chrysler 300M Crankshaft Position Sensor is utilized for determine the crankshaft's position and rotation rate to allow the engine control unit to accurately time fuel injection and ignition. The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located in the vicinity of the main crank pulley, flywheel, camshaft or in close proximity to the crankshaft itself, and is designed to detect a moving target and relay electronic signals to the Powertrain Control Module. This live data is applied to modify ignition timing, fuel delivery and other engine settings to keep the Chrysler 300M running smoothly and efficiently. The Crankshaft Position Sensor is protected from the heat, vibration and fluids that are found in an engine bay by the sealed construction. When the module is faulty, the Chrysler 300M could exhibit hard starting, misfiring, rough idle, hesitation and no-start conditions due to the lack of accurate crankshaft phase information. The Crankshaft Position Sensor is deemed necessary in both petrol and diesel applications and is a replacement for the older manual timing system, which gave feedback only at the start of the ignition cycle. A properly functioning Crankshaft Position Sensor is crucial to the Chrysler 300M's consistent performance.
