    Service and repair of the expansion valve should start with making sure the air conditioning refrigerant and lubricant vapors are not inhaled because their contact might irritate the eyes, nose and throat. Release R-134a only with suitable, approved equipment for this purpose and always ventilate before proceeding if you accidently released this substance. Don't conduct pressurized or leak tests using compressed air on the R-134a system because some mixtures of air and R-134a may burn or explode under high pressure. Make the first step by removing refrigerant from the A/C system with a refrigerant recovery machine. Use Special Tool 7240 to detach the clips from the expansion valve on the liquid line and use Special Tool 7242 for the suction line. Use special tool kit 7193 to break the quick connections on both expansion valve lines and then take out those lines at the valve. Subsequently, get rid of the two retaining bolts on the expansion valve and remove the valve along with the gasket that comes with it. When replacing the expansion valve, install a new gasket, reverse how you took it out and tighten the new valve to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.).
