The first step to changing the Air Bag Control Module in a five-passenger vehicle is unplugging the negative
Battery Cable from its remote terminal to stop the air bag system from accidentally triggering. It is recommended to remove the Instrument Panel before proceeding on a Concorde. To take out the bezel, unscrew one screw from the knob, two from the bezel itself and undo the plug connected to the outlet. After that, take off the left endcap of the instrument panel, remove the two screws from the steering column cover and remove the cover toward the back of the car. Open the
Glove Box and extend it downward to see the screws on either side of the left end of the glove box bin. Disconnect the right side panel and remove two screws from the left side panel before you can lift the left panel off. Since the Occupant Restraint Controller is open, use the red Connector Position Assurance tab to eject it, press on the locking latch and pull out the 23-way connector. After removing the side driver's screws, loosen the top one, raise the module until the ORC slips out and then check the passenger side. While installing, put the arrow on the ORC toward the front of the bracket and screw it in place, tightening to 88 to 124 in.lbs. (10 to 14 N.m). While putting things back together, remember to skip connecting the negative battery cable remote terminal until the air bag system check is finished.
