  Before fitting the drive belt, take away all leftover debris from the grooves of the belt pulleys and also make sure they are without oil, grease and coolants. The belt should be changed if it is severely worn, has frayed cords or is very shiny. Because of the reverse bending in Poly-V belt systems, small cracks may arise along the ribbed edge, but these cracks are allowed, while parallel cracks are not. Do not apply belt dressing or a restorer to your Poly-V Belts.

  Wipe away oil from any dirt or grease on the components, then disconnect the generator/power steering belt to reach the air conditioning drive belt. Release the bolts holding the adjusting screw and tensioner pulley lock down and tighten the pulley assembly until the air conditioning drive belt can be removed. To install, position the belt across the drive pulleys and tighten its tension by adjusting the tensioner bolt to the suggested tension. After that, lock the pulley with the locking nut at 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Replace the generator/power steering drive belt and tighten it according to the set instructions. For adjusting the belt tension, first loosen the pulley locking nut, then use the Belt Tension Gauge to correctly tighten the belt, pin the pulley locking nut again with Nm (ft. lbs.) and finally screw it to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). An adjustable tensioner pulley on the front timing belt cover is part of the Poly-V generator/power steering belt. To get rid of it, open the tensioner pulley locking nut, jack up the vehicle, take off the two push clips from the shield to the cradle and pull the shield out. Tighten the tensioner adjusting bolt just enough to take the belt off. When installing, put the generator/power steering belt in place and tighten it with Special Tool 7198 up to the correct tension shown on the Belt Tension Chart. Install the lower air shield with its push clips, tighten the adjusting bolt just to the right tension, lower your car back onto the ground and then tighten the tensioner pulley lock nut. For perfecting the tension, loosen the nut on the tensioner pulley, use the gauge and correct values for the belt tension, tighten the adjuster bolt and then secure the tension of the pulley with 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
